I'm still cooking.

I'm still writing.

I'm still taking photos.

I'm still working on my book.

But this week, I want to tell you about something else. My husband, Matt Ross, wrote and directed a beautiful film called CAPTAIN FANTASTIC starring Viggo Mortensen. As of this weekend, it is playing all over the country. And soon it will be playing all over the world.

  2. We went to see it on opening day in Denver (literally made it to the very first showing!) and we're already planning on going to see it a second time. And after that I'm sure there will be a third. I laughed and cried like a motherfucker, and Thom and I decided it was one of the most moving films we've ever seen. High fives to Matt and the rest of the gang.

  6. I'm so excited to go see this today! I'm in Vancouver BC waiting for the birth of our first child. The small town where we live doesn't have maternity services so we had to come to the city. They aren't playing this movie in our little town so I'm thrilled to be able to see it here! Tatiana Oleksy

  39. Hi Phyllis. My name's Ianina and I'd love to participate in this wonderful giveaway. Last month I went to the Nantucket Film Festival and CAPTAIN FANTASTIC was the 1st movie I saw. I looooved it so much that I went to see it a 2nd time. It was actually the last movie I saw before leaving so it was perfect. It is now 1 of my favorite movies and I've been telling everyone not just to run but fly to see it. I love this version of Sweet Child O' Mine which is why I'd be beyond thrilled if I was 1 of the lucky winners. I'm already happy with all the rave reviews so congrats to your husband Matt on such a magnificent work. I have a question: Is it "Yerba Mate" what Viggo's character drinks in the movie? I'm from Argentina and I know he's lived in South America, so I wonder whose idea it was. Thank you and I'll check back soon :)

  60. On a recent flight from London to San Francisco, I watched a total of five movies. Amongst them, two were Tom Hiddleston features: I Saw the Light and High-Rise. I can say with absolute definiteness that High-Rise is in the All-Time Top Five of Films which Could Have Included Matt Ross's Character From American Psycho as a Victim of Cannibalism.

  65. Our local paper ran a front page story about how the film was partially shot in our county. Otherwise I wouldn't have heard about it until probably next year. Very excited to see it after seeing the trailer and hearing the PRI interview with Viggo. It seems like in these parts we run into quite a few people who are of this character's ilk. I haven't been to an actual movie theater in almost 5 years (since having a child) but I'll get a sitter for this one! Thanks!

  91. This was absolutely the best film- maybe ever! I was in high school drama class with Matt- he directed a play I acted(badly) in- he impressed me so much then, and now- incredibly talented individual. Captain Fantastic is such a beautiful and real story that is really the perfect counterpoint to what is going on in our world now- the question of how to raise our kids consciously in hyper media exposed reality. Really love the movie- and the soundtrack was sweet- Bikini kill in the supermarket scene - perfect! Bravo Matt!!
